Ebony joined the team in Summer 2018. She is a small, muscular, pace-setting leader.
Ebony was first spotted while traveling with the team towards the end of the 2017-18 Season. She led Keith Aily's team to victory in the 2018 UP200.
Ebony is the daughter of Magnus, the brother of Blowhole's mom Rage.
Ebony's sister is Lucy but the two sisters do not get along.
Ebony's boyfriend is Jeff Sharlet (or at least he'd like to think so). She helped him overcome his fear of Halloween. Additionally, Boo who was previously infatuated with Lucy, became infatuated with Ebony during the Iditarod.[1] Thus, the two brothers (Boo and Jeff Sharlet) and the two sisters (Ebony and Lucy) had quite their own little soap opera going on for a while.
She enjoys food, running really fast, and giving other dogs haircuts by gnawing gently on their neck hairs.
Ebony joined Blair in the 2019 Iditarod, and made it all the way to Nome. Ebony was also part of Q's 2019 Kobuk 440 team, but unfortunately came into heat just before the race started and Q was forced to drop her to eliminate a distraction for other team members (*cough* Clem, Xander, Boo *cough*).
According to Otter Run Kennel, Ebony takes a few days to warm up to new people and may give gentle snips during these first few days. Once her trust is earned, you've got a friend for life!
In June 2019, Ebony gave birth to her first litter, 4 female and 2 male puppies. Daddy is Lightning. Ebony and the pups are at Otter Run Kennel for now. Ebony and one pup will be returning to BraverMountain when the pups are weaned. UPDATE: It appears that Ebony will be staying with Otter Run for the upcoming season, although she may run with BraverMountain along the way. However, her puppy, Lambeau Leap has joined BraverMountain.
During the 2020 mushing season, Ebony proved to be a rock star sled dog for Otter Run's mid-distance racing team, running as part of Otter Run's second place Gunflint Mail Run team and first place Beargrease mid-distance team.
